Menglad

Menglad
   , or Menglod
Two names applied to Freyja in Nordic myth. The first occurs in the epic poem of Svipdag and Menglad, where a hero has to pass a wall of flame to reach his bride, while the second means ‘necklace glad’, from her ownership of Brisingamen.
The myth of the wall of fire seems to be related to the ritual sacrifices or initiation ceremony to the goddess of fertility in order to ensure a good crop. Similar episodes occur in the tales of Brynhild and Skirnir.
